Trivandrum, September 1, 2017 – The Hon. Chief Minister of Kerala, Shri. Pinarayi Vijayan, laid the foundation stone for SunTec’s new campus at Technocity, Pallipuram at 8:30 AM on Friday, 1st of September, 2017.
The campus, set to be one of the greenest and most environment friendly campus in Kerala, when completed will be the first to have the prestigious Platinum Green Mark certification from the Singapore Building Authority.
Nandakumar K, Founder & CEO, said, “For SunTec, this campus is one of our dreams. When we started planning for the campus, we wanted the campus to be a part of the natural environment. We have designed the campus in such a way that it incorporates the natural flora and environment of the region and helps us to foster creativity and innovation in our work.”
The new campus will enable SunTec to create an additional capacity for more than 1500 software professionals. The campus will be spread across 10 acres and will have four buildings and a clubhouse. The buildings to be constructed in the 1st phase will be the 310,000 sq. ft. Software Development Center (which can accommodate 1500 software professionals) and the 40,000 sq. ft. club house. The campus will also house several state of the art facilities for its employees such as a swimming pool, restaurants, play-areas etc. The campus will also have a water body which will help SunTec in rain water harvesting. SunTec is also looking at several energy efficient technologies and non-conventional energy sources to make the campus as energy neutral as possible. The new campus is expected to be operational in 18 to 24 months.
The partners of SunTec for this campus are: Surbana Jurong, the architects, one of the largest Asia-based urban, industrial and infrastructure consulting firms based in Singapore; Jones Lang LaSalle, the project management consultants, a global professional services and investment management firm offering specialization in real-estate services and Vellapally Brothers, the contractors, one of the leading property development and civil construction firms in Kerala.
SunTec is one of the few Indian software product companies and has completely grown from Kerala. It is worthwhile to note that all of SunTec’s core product development and software engineering is still done out of Kerala.
At a time when many are vocal of the prospects of the Indian IT industry, it is a proud moment for all of us that SunTec is building its state of the art campus in the city it calls home, Thiruvananthapuram. With more than 75% of its employees operating out of Thiruvananthapuram and more than 90% of its employees being from Kerala, SunTec is a testament to the fact that a global company can be built from Kerala and Trivandrum in particular.
SunTec, from its beginning in 1990, has focused on building innovative software products and creating intellectual property and software patents. In some ways, SunTec can be termed as a trend-setter to what many IT companies are trying to achieve today. In the recent times, SunTec has also moved forward in line with the global transformation and is investing in areas including data analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence.
With a legacy of deployments in 50+ countries, SunTec is a trusted partner of the world’s leading banks and digital and communication service providers like HSBC, ING, Mashreq and Cable One. Headquartered in India, SunTec has offices in USA, UK, Germany, UAE and Singapore. The new campus will add an exciting phase to the SunTec journey.
As part of the event, SunTec, through its employee initiative SNEHA, will provide 90 scholarships to UP school students and 4 scholarships for engineering and Medical students from the Government Higher Secondary School in the area.
SunTec will also be distributing 200 Onam kits to the needy families in the ward where the campus is being set up. Nandakumar K mentioned, “We have always believed that we hold a moral responsibility to build the society we operate in and SNEHA has always been at the forefront of this. Through SNEHA, we have focused on providing scholarships for deserving children, supporting orphanages and old age homes, supporting sanitation activities in tribal areas by building toilet and wells, cancer detection camps for women in the poorer strata of society, blood donation camps and many more such initiatives.“
